Growing Seasons is a Biblically based support group / course aimed at children between the ages of 6 (Grade R) and 12/13 (Grade 7) who are dealing with loss through death, separation, divorce, and custodial care.
It is led by a team of facilitators / safe-keepers, who understand children and who provide a safe and caring environment in which your child is equipped with tools and skills that will help them to heal. It is geared to help children from the community (not just limited to PBC families) develop healthier relationships within their own families
Topics that are covered include:
- A new beginning – What has happened to my family?
- God’s plan – God loves all kinds of families – Faith
- I am not alone
- Facing anger
- Guilt – It’s not my fault
- Love – loving my parents
- Choices – talking to my parents – money matters
- Acceptance – Moving on and growing closer to God – developing new relationships
The course runs for 10 weeks and each session is a fun place with games, music, activities and small group discussion. We meet each Tuesday evening at PBC, from 18h00 to 19h15. Supper will be served from 17h45.
If you know of a child, or your own child needs help to deal with their loss and find a way of coping better, please call the PBC Office (Tel. 021 531 3922) or Renee Meissner (082 696 0628) to register your interest.
We will confirm when we will be holding the next Information Evening at the church, where we’ll share more information and answer any questions you may have.
We’d love to have the children to join us and experience the freedom that others have found through this course.
“[My child] has processed a lot of her hurt: She was excited about what she learnt and some nights would eagerly tell me what she had heard that had made a huge impression on her. She enjoyed the practical things she made and loved the food and treats. Thanks for your warmth, love and care for this period.”
